What is gotoTalks?

gotoTalks is a platform that gives you the opportunity to speak in front of an audience with you in total control:
  • You decide the topic of your presentation, the venue, the date and time, the duration.
  • You decide the constitution and the size of your audience. People registering to your event can be your friends, your colleagues, or even people you don’t know and never met before. There could be some advantage to speak to an audience of people you don’t know: for those who fear public speaking, the stress level and the pressure could be minimized, and surely the more you practice, the better you get.
  • Your event could be a “Standard Event” or a “Gold Event”. With a Standard Event, registrants could just be interested in your topic, or they would want to support your public speaking efforts. With a Gold Event, you pay every registrant $10/hour. There are many reasons for you to organize a Gold Event:
    • You are advertising a product or an idea and you need a focus group
    • You are a Wall Street banker and you need to practice a presentation, critical for your professional advancement
    • You are shy in nature and you want to invest in improving your public speaking skills
    • The prospect of earning money just by attending a speaking event is a powerful incentive for all of those who need an extra income: unemployed people, stay-at-home moms, students, part time workers, etc. From the presenter’s perspective, this is a decisive way to have people come to your event.
  • gotoTalks is different from Toastmasters. Toastmasters is a network of clubs (with paid membership) with the purpose of helping members improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills. Meetings format is like the traditional classroom, and can be frightening for some people. With gotoTalks, you are your own coach and you have the flexibility of organizing your speaking event the way you want it: topic, venue, duration, interaction with the audience.
Try this: You are a mom or dad, and your 14 year old girl can’t speak in front of an audience. Organize a standard or gold event for her and have her read (and then recite) Shakespeare’s “Sonnet 55” or Robert Frost’s “Fire and Ice”. Have her do this repeatedly (three times a week, in a two month period). After this, she will become a totally transformed person.
